The Darkness are recording a new album - without lead singer Justin Hawkins.
The band's three remaining members announced they have started working on
their new project with bassist Richie Edwards taking over as vocalist, after
Justin quit the group last year.
Confirming the news on his MySpace page, Richie wrote: "The big red record
button has been pressed, we've officially started our album."
Richie, drummer Ed Graham and guitarist Dan Hawkins have appointed Toby
MacFarlaine to be the new bass player.
Following the success of their 2002 debut album 'Permission To Land', Justin
developed a £150,000 cocaine addiction and eventually quit the band.
He checked into London's The Priory rehab clinic last year.
Justin also confessed to suffering from alcoholism and the eating disorder
bulimia.
At the time, Justin's bandmates were stunned by his unexpected departure.
Original bassist Frankie Poullain left the band in May 2005.
