David Beckham and Wife are Extra Careful in Buying a House

and are still house-hunting in Los Angeles because they refuse to be ripped off by greedy house owners.

The couple - who are moving to the US this summer after soccer star David signed a deal with Los Angeles Galaxy - are refusing to bow to sellers trying to take advantage of their wealth by bumping up the price of prospective properties.

A source told People magazine: "It's pretty hard to keep identities secret when you are interested in multimillion-dollar mansions. Once sellers find out who's interested in buying, the prices skyrocket. It's ridiculous. One mansion recently went up by millions once the owner found out the Beckhams were interested. But they will not pay in excess purely because of who they are. They are careful with their money."

However, Victoria has had more success looking for private schools for her children, Brooklyn, eight, Romeo, four, and two-year-old Cruz.

The Beckhams' Stateside move is being filmed for a six-part NBC fly-on-the wall documentary. However, insiders say the programme could be scrapped because the couple have failed to rope in any of their A-list friends to make guest appearances.

A source said: "So far, all that's been filmed is Victoria house-hunting and her quest to find schools for the kids, which hardly makes scintillating viewing. David and Victoria are not well known out there and they have not yet been able to convince any of their celebrity friends to come on."
