George Michael wants to charge his current promoters a high sum so that he won't need to charge his future shows.
George Michael wants to be the "Robin Hood of pop". The 'Fast Love' singer wants to earn as much money as possible from private performances, so he can make his music available for free to everyone else.
He said: "My starting price for private performances is £1.5 million and it will probably go up when I stop touring. What I'm thinking is I can be a bit Robin Hood about people wanting to see me play live privately. What I'd like to do is earn enough money so I can release my music for free, then I won't have to interact with the increasingly hostile media."
George, 43, also revealed he pestered bosses at London's new Wembley Stadium to let him be the first artist to play live. He said in an interview with Britain's Radio 1: "I started making inquiries last year and I told people building Wembley, 'I don't care when it happens but I want to open it.' " The former Wham! star got his wish and will appear in front of 90,000 fans at Wembley on June 9.
Meanwhile, George pleaded guilty to a charge of driving while unfit through drugs at London's Brent Magistrates Court today (08.05.07). He blamed "tiredness and prescribed drugs" for the offence. The singer was arrested last October when police found him slumped over the wheel of his car at a set of traffic lights in London.
