Brittany Murphy is rumoured to have married British screenwriter Simon Monjack to stop him being deported from the US. According to reports, the 'Factory Girl' screenplay writer was arrested on expired visa charges in the middle of the night on March 27 - just weeks before the couple's secret wedding.
A source told the New York Post newspaper: "Brittany knew nothing about any of that." Monjack's lawyer said: "These charges are being made by disgruntled ex-girlfriends and immigration officials have concluded the marriage had no bearing on my client's visa status."
A representative for Brittany refused to comment. The couple, who began dating last year, tied the knot at their Los Angeles home in front of close family and friends last month. Brittany's representative said: "They were married at their home in Los Angeles several weeks ago in a very intimate ceremony. It was officiated by a rabbi and they were surrounded by their families."
