Cuba Gooding Jr. has been hailed a hero after saving a man who had been shot. The Oscar-winning actor was in his car when he heard four gunshots and saw a wounded young male staggering out of a Hollywood restaurant on Memorial Day (28.05.07), a US federal holiday, it has been reported.
A source told the New York Daily News newspaper: "Cuba was picking up dinner at Roscoe's House of Chicken 'n' Waffles for his family on the night of Memorial Day. He saw a young kid holding his head and walked toward him. The kid was bleeding from his neck and collapsed."
Gooding ran over to the victim - described as around 20 years old - and cradled him as he shouted to the restaurant to bring him towels. When staff emerged with paper towels, the 'Jerry Maguire' star said: "No, we need real towels!" Gooding, 39, managed to stem the bleeding before stopping a passing police car. He waited with the wounded man until an ambulance arrived.
At the time of writing, the victim's condition was said to be improving. Gooding is currently starring in 'Hero Wanted' alongside Ray Liotta.
