Rachel Weisz will play in "The Lovely Bones" as a mother in question of her suddenly missing daughter who only discovers a horrible truth in the end.
Rachel Weisz is to star in a film about a murdered girl watching her family from heaven. The British actress will appear in the film adaptation of Alice Sebold's 2002 best-selling novel '
The Lovely Bones'.
The tale is told through the eyes of a 14-year-old girl who, after being brutally raped and murdered, watches her loved ones search for the truth behind her disappearance. Weisz will star as the teenage victim's mother Abigail Salmon, whose worse fears come true after she discovers her daughter has been abducted.
The 36-year-old brunette beauty will be directed by 'Lord Of The Rings' helmer Peter Jackson. The filmmaker co-wrote the screenplay with Philippa Boyens and Fran Walsh. Shooting will begin in October at locations in the US and New Zealand. The movie is scheduled to be released in 2008.
Meanwhile, it was recently revealed Weisz is to be replaced by
Maria Bello in the third instalment of 'The Mummy'. It is believed Weisz turned down the chance to reprise her role as adventuress Evelyn Carnahan O'Connell for a third time because she didn't want to be typecast.
