Justin Timberlake and Beyonce Knowles lead the nominations for this year's MTV Video Music Awards. Justin and Beyoncé are both in the running for seven awards, while rapper Kanye West and rising star Rihanna are nominated in five categories.
The coveted title of Video of the Year will be contested by Justin's 'What Goes Around. Comes Around', Beyoncé's 'Irreplaceable', Kanye's 'Stronger', Rihanna's 'Umbrella', Amy Winehouse's 'Rehab', and 'D.A.N.C.E', by French electro duo Justice.
Justin is also up for Male Artist of the Year, Most Earthshattering Collaboration for his 'SexyBack' duet with Timbaland, Quadruple Threat of the Year and Best Choreography in a Video, while his promo for 'What Goes Around... Comes Around' received Best Editing and Best Director nominations.
Beyoncé's duet with Shakira, 'Beautiful Liar', is up for Most Earthshattering Collaboration, Best Choreography, Best Director and Best Editing. She is also up for Female Artist of the Year and Quadruple Threat of the Year.
Kanye and Rihanna appeared on MTV's Total Request Live yesterday (07.08.07) to help announce the nominations, with Lily Allen joining them via video link-up.
Lily, who was detained for five hours by US immigration officials after arriving in Los Angeles, will go up against British rival Amy Winehouse for the title of Best New Artist. Amy has also been nominated for two other awards.
The ceremony, taking place on September 9, will be a star-studded affair with Kanye, Amy, Rihanna, Fall Out Boy, Lily, Chris Brown and the Foo Fighters all expected to perform. The two-hour show will air live from the Palm Springs Casino Resort in Las Vegas.
