Klaxons continued their successful 2007 with a win at the Vodafone Live Music Awards on Wednesday, September 19. The British four-piece - who earlier this month claimed the prestigious Nationwide Mercury Prize for their album 'Myths of the Near Future' - were named XFM Live Breakthrough Act at the glitzy ceremony at London's Brompton Hall.
Amy Winehouse was also victorious, trumping Lily Allen, Kate Nash and KT Tunstall to scoop the Live Female accolade. Other winners - voted for by the public - included Mika, who took the Live Male award, the Arctic Monkeys, who claimed the Best Live Act accolade and The Police, who won the Best Live Return. Despite a dazzling list of winners, all the acts failed to turn up to collect their awards.
However, the audience were not left disappointed, as they were treated to storming performances from Stereophonics, Cansei de Ser Sexy, Enrique Iglesias, Kate Nash, Manic Street Preachers, Calvin Harris, Athlete, Pigeon Detectives and The Enemy.
The most prestigious prize of the evening was reserved for Iggy Pop, who received The Freddie Mercury Lifetime Achievement Award in Live Music. The ceremony - presented by Radio 1 DJ Chris Moyles - also paid tribute to the people behind the scenes, giving James' ever faithful Geoff Buckley - who has been with the band since 1989 - the prize for Best Roadie.
Celebrity guests included Kimberly Stewart, George Clooney's former girlfriend Lisa Snowdon, Rachel Stevens and British actor Danny Dyer. Indie band The Thrills were also in attendance, but were left red-faced when guitarist Daniel Ryan got into a scuffle with security after being thrown out of the VIP area for having the wrong pass.
