Upon honored for his musical achievements, Snoop Dogg said that the award event is "the best thing to happen to hip-hop".
Snoop Dogg was blown away at being honored for his musical achievements at VH1's fourth annual Hip Hop Honors. The rap star appeared truly humbled as he accepted the award at New York's Hammerstein Ballroom last week.
Accepting his award in front of Q-Tip and rap legend KRS-One, Snoop said: "These are guys that I grew up wanting to be like and learning their words and dreaming and hoping and wishing, and now they know who I am and they respect me and they say that my work has put me in the position that I can be commended. It's unbelievable. I can't believe it. This is the best thing to happen to hip-hop, it's positive. These awards shows- never no violence it's never negative, never anything in the media the wrong way, it's always a great celebration of music and the artists and what they did."
Other acts honoured at the ceremony - which aired in the US last night (08.10.07) - included
Missy Elliott, 80s rap trio Whoudini and A Tribe Called Quest. All stars receiving awards were treated to a tribute performance of their work by another act. During the Whoudini tribute,
