After being reported wanting her child back and jeopardizing Angelina Jolie's adoption of Zahara, the little girl's biological mother turned to defend the Hollywood star.
Angelina Jolie's adoption was defended by Zahara's biological mother. On Saturday (17.11.07), Mentwabe Dawit at her home in Awasa told Reuters that she never demanded Jolie to return her two-year-old child, as quoted "I have never disputed the adoption. This was a mistake. It was something I never said."
She further claimed that the news came out since "so-called journalists", who came to her house, had twisted her words. Regarding
the claim that she was dead, which was made by her mother, she explained that five months after Zahara was born, she ran away from home and afterwards, her mother had been searching for months for her with no luck. Thus, her mother concluded that she was dead and gave Zahara up for an adoption.
Dawit also said that she is happy knowing that her daughter is being raised by the '
Beowulf' star. Kissing the famous actress' picture, she said, "This is to show I have no ill feelings towards her. I think my daughter is a very fortunate human being to be adopted by a world-famous lady. I wish them both all the success they deserve."
Jolie has legally adopted the Ethiopian little girl in July 2005. But, the legality of Zahara's adoption was being questioned when reports of Dawit begging Jolie to return her daughter came out last Wednesday (14.11.07). On Thursday (15.11.07), the Ethiopian agency rebutted the question by announcing that the adoption was "legal and irrevocable".
