For the first time, Led Zeppelin's single of 'Stairway to Heaven' broke into the top 40 U.K. singles chart. It was charted at #37 on Sunday (18.11.07) thanks to the charts' new regulation allowing singles' download sales to be counted. Earlier this week, the band made their particular single available to their fans to download, hence helped to increase the rating of the song.
Though in 1971 'Stairway to Heaven' was the most requested and played song in U.S. radio stations, it was never released as a single. It was released digitally to promote the release of Led Zeppelin's new album, 'Mothership', which was released on November 12, 2007.
Last September, the legendary rock band who split more than 20 years ago following the death of their drummer, John Bonham, announced that their remaining band members will reunite for one-night performance on November 26. However, since Jimmy Page, their guitarist, broke his finger earlier this month, the reunion concert's schedule is postponed to December 10.
