On Sunday night (18.11.07), Beyonce Knowles gave special performance at the highlight of American Music Awards. The 'R n B' star surprised the audience by going country. In the performance, she sang the country version of her hit song 'Irreplacable' with the well-known country duo, Sugarland.
The exclusive duet performance happened thanks to Sugarland's representative. Knowing that the band often sang this particular Beyonce's song whenever they had live performance, their record label person came out with the amazing idea and determined to make the duet happen.
Jennifer Nettles, the lead singer of Sugarland explained, "[A rep] at the label, Universal, found out we play this song live. Just for fun we said, What if we took this song and made it bluegrass? Could it work?... We play it live in our show every night and [the rep] knew that we did that and obviously called the right folks ... [Beyonce] heard it, she got to see a video of our performance of it and loved it, and said, Yes! Let's do it!"
Aside from Beyonce's highlight performance, 2007 American Music Awards was packed with the amazing performances of Celine Dion, Duran Duran, Stacy Ferguson, Rihanna, and many others. It also brought attention to two American Idol graduates, Chris Daughtry and Carrie Underwood, who managed to score big in the event. Chris' band, DAUGHTRY took home awards favorite pop-rock album, breakthrough artist and adult contemporary artist, while Underwood for female country artist, country album, and the T-Mobile text-in award.
