Celebrating Thanksgiving with his long-term partner, Calista Flockhart, Harrison Ford chose to share his gratitude with less fortunate people in Skid Row.
Harrison Ford and lover Calista Flockhart served a Thanksgiving meal to homeless people on Wednesday (21.11.07). The Hollywood couple donned red aprons and plastic gloves to help hand out turkey drumsticks, mash potatoes and gravy to more than 3,000 needy people for the Los Angeles Mission's annual event in the downtown area of the city known as Skid Row.
Other celebrities who volunteered to help with the charity feast - which took place the day before the annual US holiday (22.11.07) - included actress
Nia Long and actor
Kirk Douglas. Los Angeles' Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, who has been volunteering for a decade, also helped clean the feet of some of the homeless.
Douglas - who helped set up the mission's Anne Douglas Center for Women - insisted the event has a profound effect on the helpers. He said: "It is inspiring to see the actors and politicians come and help
serve. Their involvement will help their souls as much as it helps the guests being served."
The homeless were also treated to entertainment provided by a house band, as they drank bright green and orange punch at rows of tables set up outside the venue.
