Refusing to stop wearing fur, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen were being ridiculed by PETA in their new ad campaign underlining "Fur is Worn by Beautiful Animals and Ugly People".
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) are well-known for making a positive use of the celebrity fame. However, in the case of
Ashley Olsen and
Mary-Kate Olsen, the animal rights group decided to better mock the famous twins by making a special site and ad featuring them since the young moguls allegedly ignored their requests to stop wearing furs.
In the site named
'Meet the Trollsen Twins', the activist group nicknamed the twins "Hairy Kate and Trashley". They also prepared an interactive game, "Dress Up the Trollsen", where people can dress the twins using dead and bloody animal. Additionally, they made "Full House of Horrors" video which showed the footage from the twins' first TV series and had been injected with scenes showing animals killed for fur.
Aside from the website, PETA also launched a poster featuring the "New York Minutes" stars which highlighted on the tagline "Fur is Worn by Beautiful Animals and Ugly People". The poster was introduced at the Olsen's Walk of Fame star on Hollywood Boulevard on Tuesday (11.12.07).
Regarding their considerably harsh ad, PETA2's Assistant Director of Youth Campaigns, Dan Shannon explained the reason behind the ad stating, "No one would argue that Mary-Kate and Ashley could use some meat on their bones, but the last thing they need is hair on their backs, especially when it belongs to someone else. These two are a couple of real lightweights when it comes to both taste and compassion."
