Madonna Honored Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
will be named as the member of Rock and Roll Hall of Fame at an annual ceremony on March 10, 2008 in New York. On Thursday (13.12.07), the material girl was announced to be among the five inductees chosen to be honored a place in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

The 'Papa Don't Preach' singer was chosen by a panel of 600 music industry professionals under the circumstances that she had had released seven number one hits and three number one albums in the 80's because to be considered as a nominee, an artist must have released a single or album at least 25 years before. For the Hall of Fame's position, she outshone Donna Summer and Beastie Boys.

Besides Madonna, folk rock icon Leonard Cohen, John Mellencamp, pop band The Dave Clark Five and instrumental guitar rockers The Ventures will also immortalized on the Hall of Fame. Cohen was famous for "Suzanne" and "Dress Rehearsal Rag" and The Dave Clark Five were iconic for "Glad All Over", while The Ventures were known for their surfer anthems, including "Walk Don't Run" and "Hawaii Five-O". Meanwhile, Mellencamp, who was well-known for "Pink Houses" and "Small Town", said, "I'm very honored and pleased to be recognized this way, especially among people whom I greatly admire."

Commenting about the inductees, Joel Peresman, the president and CEO of Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation said, "The 2008 inductees are trailblazers - all unique and influential in their genres. From poetry to pop, these five acts demonstrate the rich diversity of rock and roll itself." He then added, "(The voters) don't really look at album sales and ticket sales as being the defining category of why someone gets inducted, it's really their influence and their place in history."
