Facing jail if convicted from the fatal crash lawsuit, Brandy probably won't even facing the manslaughter charges. According to TMZ, a source from California Highway Patrol revealed that Awatef Aboudihaj, the woman died in the car accident involving the R 'n' B singer, actually had crashed into the vehicle in front of her before Brandy even made any contact with her car.
It was reported that upon striking the car in front of her with the speed of 65 mph, the woman then stepped on her brakes making a sudden stop that caused Brandy to hit her car. More to the good news to Brandy's part, L.A. Captain Ed Winter, the County Coroner spokesperson, told TMZ that the toxicology reports showed at the time of the crash, Aboudihaj had slight traces of marijuana in her system.
Allegedly, the developing news has created significant division in the City Attorney's office since if they file under manslaughter charges, they have to prove the 28-year-old singer did something negligent that proved to be difficult if not impossible. Hence, it resulted in their inability to make the decision at the moment. Still, the City Attorney has until the end of the business day on Friday (28.12.07) to decide whether to file criminal charges against her because it is when the one-year statute of limitations runs out.
Brandy's car accident drama began on December 30, 2006 at 10:30 a.m. when she was driving her 2007 Land Rover at 65 mph on Interstate 405, a Los Angeles freeway. Reportedly, the former judge of America's Got Talent didn't notice that cars in front of her had slowed down resulting her crashing to a 2005 Toyota ahead which then hit a 1989 Toyota. The car crash didn't stop there since the 2005 Toyota driven by Aboudihaj slid sideways, hit the center divider and was struck by a 1988 Acura.
Following the incident, Aboudihaj died the next day and the hitmaker of 'The Boy Is Mine' was left with lawsuit from Aboudihaj's parents. She is also facing a possible case from a misdemeanor charge of vehicular manslaughter.
