Being a successful West Virginian, Jennifer Garner was honored with a new title "West Virginian of the Year". The "Alias" leading lady was given the kudo by her hometown newspaper, the Sunday Gazette-Mail.
In the article published on December 30, 2007, the newspaper proudly announced their pick for the honor. It was stated, "For her dedication, work ethic and unique role as role model and ambassador for West Virginia, Jennifer Garner is the Sunday Gazette-Mail's 2007 West Virginian of the Year."
In an e-mail interview, Garner explained her passion toward her state writing, "I like to do the things that are familiar. I like to see people I grew up with. I always go to Taylor Books. I love going home to my church - Christ Church United Methodist. I probably visit a Dairy Queen, and I love the farmer's market." Her mother, Pat Garner added, "She's pretty passionate about her love of West Virginia. She just considers it home."
Regarding her chosen being the state's ambassador, her friends couldn't agree more with the choice. Light Opera Guild director Nina Pasinetti said, "A lot of people don't even talk about where they're from. She enjoyed her life here and she's proud of her state." Additionally, Dr. Elizabeth Cary Brown, a childhood friend of Garner, said, "I think she makes West Virginia proud. With all the stereotypes that abound, it's nice to see a young, classy woman who's from here. She's a good parent and a good role model."
Actually, the wife of Ben Affleck wasn't a native West Virginian. The mother of Violet Affleck was born in Houston. However, her family moved to West Virginia in 1976, just before she turned four years old, and stayed there since then.
