Rapper DMX Missed Court Date, Ordered to Pay $1.5 Million
The price of an absence has arguably cost a fortune. The rapper has been ordered to pay out $1.5 million to Monique Wayne, the mother of his child, after he failed to show up at a Maryland court to defend himself against allegations of defamation on Friday, January 11, 2008.

According to the New York Post, the "Party Up" hit-maker, real name Earl Simmons, has to draw out $518,400 from his pocket to pay Wayne in compensation plus a further $1 million in punitive penalties.

DMX faced a lawsuit filed by Wayne in 2006 after he claimed to Sister 2 Sister magazine that the Baltimore native raped him during a hotel stay in Baltimore in 2003, which ended up with the pregnancy result. The suit seeks $6 million in damages over the interview.

"She raped me," he said to the magazine. "DNA says it is (my child). I don't know. If I did (have sex with her), I would remember. It ain't like she's a pretty girl."

Following the ruling, Wayne told the paper, "It's not so much the price, it's the point I wanted to get across. Let him think about what he's going to say before he says it."
