The investigation on the tape will determine whether the "Rehab" singer should face charges for drugs abuse.
The shocking video footage allegedly showing
Amy Winehouse snorting drugs on Friday morning (Jan. 18) turned out to force the singer to deal with authorities.
Britain's Scotland Yard started an investigation Wednesday, January 23, 2008 on the video and now is examining the tape after a tearful Winehouse, who has reverted to her usual sleek black beehive and heavy make-up, showed up the day before to visit a rehab clinic.
"We are in receipt of the videotape from a media outlet and it is currently being investigated," a spokeswoman for Scotland Yard confirmed.
The video will be analyzed thoroughly to decide whether the "Rehab" hit-maker should face any charges against her. It will also determine whether she will be allowed to fly to the States next month for the 50th annual Grammy Awards.
Despite the investigation, Winehouse's U.K. label Island Record, however, has given assurance that it will stand by the 24-year-old as she continues to battle her drug addictions and has no plan to drop her from its roster.
"We are deeply disappointed and upset by these latest revelations and are doing everything we can to offer Amy our full support in dealing with her problems," an issued statement from the company said.
In the meantime, the songstress' father Mitch Winehouse is reported to have moved in with her in a bid to keep her off drugs. The former taxi driver previously was noted to be heartbroken over the video footage, but commented that it "may well be the best thing that has ever happened to her."
"For all the hurt and pain, it may finally be the thing to focus her mind and convince her to get the help she needs to quit for good," he said.
The much older Winehouse is said to take the matters into his own hands because he is terrified that his daughter's continuous drug use could eventually kill her. By moving in with her, the man hopes he can keep her away from the influence of her junkie friends.
"Mitch is terrified about the people she associates with and thinks that by taking these low-lifes out of the equation, Amy will face less temptation," a friend of Winehouse family said. "He's asked her to come and live with him until she's back on the straight and narrow... If Mitch is by her side almost 24/7 he can monitor exactly who she hangs out with and where she does it."
