Allegedly due to the low sales in some of the concerts, the Spice Girls' reunion tour in Sydney, Beijing, Cape Town and Buenos Aires are canceled.
The coming back tour of successful British girl band
Spice Girls has been cut short. On their official site on Friday (01.02.08), the band consisted of
Geri Halliwell,
Emma Bunton, Melanie Brown,
Melanie C, and
Victoria Adams have announced that "The Return Of The Spice Girls" will be ended on February 26 in Toronto. The girls won't go on to Australia, China, South Africa and Argentina as what has been planned earlier citing on their family and personal commitments.
The official statement of the girls read, "We've had such an amazing time over the last 3 months. It's been incredible being back together and seeing our fans again. We want to thank everyone who came to see us. It was all so mad the first time round, so we've really been able to appreciate it properly this time. There have been so many highlights and good times that we know it will be hard to be apart after Toronto." On the statement released, the band also expressed their regrets of having to end the tour stating, "Really sorry if we didn't get to see you this time round. We all have other commitments in our lives now but who knows what will happen next."
Further, it was said that the concerts being canceled were to be held in the cities of Sydney, Beijing, Cape Town and Buenos Aires. Allegedly, the dropping of the concerts was done because of drawing a disappointing turnout at some concerts. Some reports suggested that lack of interest in some of the cities has resulted in poor ticket sales.
The reuniting tour of Spice Girls after their 9-year-vacuum from the music biz has become a phenomenon as within days of the reunion announcement as over 1 million people in the U.K. alone had registered for tickets as well as 3 million people in the U.S. And when the tickets was on sale, they were sold out in a record breaking 38 seconds.
