Yesterday it was reported that Amy Winehouse could not attend the 50th Annual Grammy Awards because her U.S. visa application has been denied. The latest news came following that is that the U.S. officials have reversed their decision on Friday (08.02.08) and giving the chance for the British troubled singer to come to America. But, instead of packing her bags and heading to the Grammys, the 24-year-old singer decided to stay in her home country and performed via satellite.
The news of the granting of the U.S. visa was broken out by Winehouse's U.S. representative. On Friday, the rep released a statement noting, "Following further discussions involving the U.S. Embassy in London and officials in the United States, Amy Winehouse has been granted a visa to enter the United States of America." Further, the statement read, "Unfortunately, due to the logistics involved and timing complications, Amy will not be coming to the U.S. this weekend to perform at the Grammys in Los Angeles, however she will still be performing via satellite broadcast from London as previously announced this morning."
In the statement, it was said that though sad not being to be able to be at the Grammys in person, Winehouse thanked everyone involved in her visa application. The statement read, "Amy would like to thank all of those people, and in particular the staff involved at the U.S. Embassy in London, who have all worked so hard to expedite her application. She is very sad not to be attending the prestigious awards in person, but wishes to express her heartfelt gratitude to all of those involved in the process. She is looking forward to being a part of the 50th Annual Grammy Awards with her Sunday night performance and to coming back to the U.S. soon."
At the same day, Winehouse released her own statement saying, "I'm raring to go and really excited to be performing at my first Grammy Awards. I'd like to thank everyone for their support over the last couple of weeks. I'm really sorry I can't be there but I appreciate that I'm being given a second chance via satellite." Further, MTV News reported that in preparing for her satellite performance, Winehouse will leave the rehab clinic where she underwent treatment the past two weeks. Still, it was added that the singer will still be under full medical supervision so that her treatment can continue as normal.
