Though she couldn't be in person at the 50th Grammy Awards as she was hoping for, the 'Rehab' singer got her redemption as she won five out of six awards she was nominated for.
Though unable to attend the 50th Grammy Awards in person, Amy Winehouse still managed to stole the special gala's spotlight as the troubled British singer almost nailed all the awards she was nominated earlier. On Sunday (10.02.08) night at the awards ceremony in Los Angeles, the singer was announced to be the winner of 5 prizes, including the prestigious Record of the Year for her "Back to Black" album and Song of the Year for "Rehab".
At the event, the 24-year-old singer almost swept away all the six awards she was nominated for. She lost only on one category, Album of the Year, which went to Herbie Hancock for his album "River: The Joni Letters". As a consolation prize because she couldn't attend the highest awards for musical artist, she garnered the five other kudos.
At the pre-telecast event, Winehouse has been awarded with three early prizes, that is Best New Artist, Best Female Pop Vocal Performance and Best Pop Vocal Album. For the new artist category, she was besting
Feist,
Ledisi,
Paramore and
Taylor Swift, whereas in the category of pop female vocal, she beat out
Christina Aguilera,
Feist,
Stacy Ferguson a.k.a Fergie and
Nelly Furtado. Additionally, for the pop album, she overshadowed
Bon Jovi's "Lost Highway",
Feist's "The Reminder",
Maroon 5's "It Won't Be Soon Before Long" and
Paul McCartney's "Memory Almost Full".
Winehouse was originally scheduled to performed at the awards' ceremony, but she failed to do it in person because of the U.S. visa problems. Last Thursday (07.02.08), it was reported that her visa application to enter the U.S. was denied due to her drugs issues, but the decision then was changed on Friday (08.02.08) allowing her to go to the Grammys. However, due to the short preparation time given, Winehouse decided to stay in British and performed via satellite.
