Not everybody was happy with the 50th Grammy Awards result on Sunday, February 10. Natalie Cole, in particular, snubbed the Recording Academy for granting troubled singer Amy Winehouse five nods while she is still 'on the mend'.
After the ceremony, Cole released a statement saying that Winehouse who is receiving treatment in London for her drug addiction does not deserve the accolades that were stacked on her in the event. Cole insisted the it was a bad idea, saying "I don't think she should have won. I think it sends a bad message to our young people who are trying to get into this business, the ones who are trying to do it right and really trying to keep themselves together. We have to stop rewarding bad behavior."
Cole would be agree to give the "Rehab" singer whose talent she acknowledged, an award if she has got herself together, especially if there "isn't something that's cute and fun just to throw around in the press." Winehouse performed two songs that night via satellite from London and Cole rated it as "fine", comparing her to Rihanna's and Beyonce Knowles' whom she "can tell how hard they work".
In the music event that is held at Los Angeles' Staples Center, Winehouse managed to pocket five out of six nominations she earned. She took home Best New Artist, Best Female Pop Vocal Performance, Best Song, Best Pop Vocal Album and the coveted Record of the Year, only losing one category Album of the Year to Herbie Hancock.
