Knowing that his fans have discovered about his spontaneous "Keg in the Closet" college bar shows, Kenny Chesney reportedly plans to cancel the low-key gigs. According to reports, the 39-year-old country singer is considering to scrap his pre-tour gigs after he found out that over-eager fans have publicized an impromptu show at the Jupiter Bar & Grille in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
StarPulse reported that Chesney commented that he wanted the show to be a surprise. He said, "The idea is to let it be a surprise, give it back to the kids on those campuses (we play). We pulled a show because someone decided they were gonna hand out the tickets, and if it's gonna turn into something that's not the spirit of what we're trying to do, then it's probably time to stop."
Acording to GACTV.com, the former husband of Renee Zellweger explained, "The spirit of this has always been for me and the guys to get out, get a little sloppy, play a bunch of songs we love and have a good time. It's supposed to be loose, easy and in the moment." He then added, "But if this kind of craziness is already happening, it means we may have hit the point where we can't do it anymore. I'd hate that, but these clubs can't handle that kind of crowding, and I don't wanna put them through it. It's a shame. It's a lot of fun for everybody, and it's always seemed like the people who didn't get in were good sports about it."
Chesney has preceded his summer concert tours with Keg In The Closet run of bar shows at southeastern college towns for the past five years. The tentative shows are done to give him and his band time to rehearse before the arena tours. As a custom to the shows, the schedules have been kept as secrets until the last minutes.
