While judging for an Australian film festival, Naomi Watts happened to watch a touching footage in tribute of the late Heath Ledger.
Naomi Watts braved herself when she was tapped as the judge and presenter at Tropfest film festival in Sydney, Australia but broke her dam during a tribute to
Heath Ledger. On February 17, the actress who had dated Ledger for two years before his passing in January 2008, got teary while a tribute footage was played.
The short film was put together by John Polson, featuring clips of the late actor in his notable roles such as Ennis the cowboy in "
Brokeback Mountain", the romantic man in "
Casanova" and Dan the poet in "
Candy". It also played a footage of Ledger presenting an award at the festival in the previous years. Watts was photographed wrinkling her forehead and covering her lips for a moment while watching the video playing on the screen.
In the festival, Watts was joined by fellow Australian actor
Geoffrey Rush who shared his comment on Ledger's death. He said, "He is one of our brothers, he is one of our clan and I had the great fortune to work with him on two films and know him a little bit socially. We are going to miss him." Rush played opposite Ledger in "Candy".
Watts came to Australia with baby son Alexander while her fiance
Liev Schreiber was filming "
X-Men Origins: Wolverine" in New Zealand. She dated Ledger after meeting him on the set of "
Ned Kelly" in 2002.
