The actor who reached stardom in the late '80s Patrick Swayze has made the media aware that he is fighting cancer. According to Access Holywood, the representative to the co-star of Demi Moore in hit movie "Ghost" has let out announcement on Wednesday (05.03.08) that the 55-year-old actor has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and is undergoing treatment.
The statement read, "Actor Patrick Swayze has been diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer and is currently undergoing treatment." On the occasion, the reps also ensured that the actor is still working as usual stating, "Patrick is continuing his normal schedule during this time, which includes working on upcoming projects. The outpouring of support and concern he has already received from the public is deeply appreciated by Patrick and his family."
Slamming down rumors that the "Dirty Dancing" actor has only few weeks to live, his physician Dr. George Fisher said that the dancer-turned-actor's illness isn't as bad as what has been reported earlier. "Patrick has a very limited amount of disease and he appears to be responding well to treatment thus far," Fisher explained. "All of the reports stating the timeframe of his prognosis and his physical side effects are absolutely untrue. We are considerably more optimistic."
Earlier reports about Swayze's illness showed a grim prospect to the husband of actress Lisa Niemi. The National Enquirer which reported that the actor has been undergoing radical chemotherapy at Stanford University's prestigious cancer center in Palo Alto in California in January stated that the treatment didn't wok as expected and he has been told to prepare for the worst. The publication quoted an insider that said, "He was told he could have two more treatments, but his cancer was not responding. In short - they held out little hope for a cure."
