Pete Doherty 'Obsessed' With Scientology?

The troubled Babyshambles rocker has been reported to be taken with the disputed faith after he met new lover DJ Nadine Ruddy, who is a Scientologist.

The troubled British rock star Pete Doherty has reportedly been hooked to the controversial religion Scientology. According to British tabloid The Sun, the Babyshambles frontman has develop an obsession towards the polemical cult after he met Scientologist DJ Nadine Ruddy, with whom he is romantically linked.

Allegedly, the former boyfriend of supermodel Kate Moss has been buying books to find out more about the religion, which claims Hollywood stars like Tom Cruise, John Travolta and Kirstie Alley to be among its devotees. To the publication, a source revealed, "Nadine is really into Scientology. She takes her beliefs very seriously. Pete's chatted a lot with her about it. He went out and bought some books to read up about it. He just wanted to find out more about Nadine and what she believes in."

The Church of Scientology was invented by sci-fi writer L. Ron Hubbard back in 1951. The religion creates controversies in the U.S. as it is not considered to be compatible with the major world religions. Showbizspy reported that among its practices, it is taught that women should be as silent as possible while giving birth, newborn babies shouldn't be given a bath for 24 days and that women are not allowed to to take painkillers during labor.
