Mischa Barton has been sentenced to three years of unsupervised probation after she pleaded no contest for her DUI charges. Barton was sentenced on Thursday, April 10, 2008 in a Beverly Hills court. According to Reuters, during the hearing, her lawyer Anthony V. Salerno entered a plea of no contest in the actress' DUI case to make agreement with prosecutors.
Aside from that, the star of television series "The O.C." has also been ordered to follow an alcohol education program. For this probation, Barton must attend three months of alcohol education classes. Further, she was also fined $1,652. About Barton's probation, her lawyer said, "The DAs were very fair in handling this case." It was reported that Barton didn't attend the hearing.
The prosecutors also charged the 22-year-old with being unlicensed driver and for possession of 28.5 grams or less of marijuana. However, as part of the plea deal, the prosecutors agreed to reduce a charge of driving without a license to an infraction. The prosecutors even agreed to dismiss a marijuana possession charge.
Previously, on February 26, 2008, the L.A. District Attorney has officially charged Barton with four misdemeanor criminal counts related to her DUI arrest back in December last year. The four charges are driving under the influence, driving with a blood alcohol level of .08% or higher, driving without a license and possession of marijuana. The charges were given to Barton after she was arrested in West Hollywood on December 27, 2007 in the 900 block of North La Cienega Boulevard near Willoughby Avenue.
