In the follow up to the earlier reports about a video showing Heath Ledger taking cocaine, it has emerged that the footage has been claimed to be a set up. Associated Press reported that according to legal documents filed in Los Angeles Superior Court on Friday (11.04.08), an unnamed woman has accused two Splash News paparazzi of luring the late actor to use the cocaine and secretly tape it.
In her lawsuit, the woman listed as "Jane Doe" stated that Eric Munn and Darren Banks, whom she claimed to be dating occasionally at the time, lured the star of "Brokeback Mountain" to her hotel room at the Chateau Marmont hotel on January 29, 2006. Further, it is noted that the two gave the actor the drugs and filmed him using a hidden camera. It is also explained that the former lover of actress Michelle Williams had some cocaine of his own and didn't know that the pair were photographers.
Further, the lawsuit described that when the depicter of Joker in the forthcoming superhero movie "The Dark Knight" was on the hotel room's balcony, he realized he was being videotaped and was enraged and upset with the fact. At this stage, the two paparazzi calmed him down by giving him more cocaine and by promising him that the tape would be destroyed.
A part of the video footage showing the Australian actor at a Hollywood drugs party has been aired by The Insider and Entertainment Tonight on Wednesday, January 30, 2008. In it, it can be seen that he was talking to two men about his daughter Matilda Rose and Williams. "I'm going to get serious s**t from my girlfriend. We had a baby three months ago...I shouldn't be here at all," said the movie star. However, it was not exposed that he was using the drugs.
Soon after noticing that they will be broadcast the full video on Thursday, January 31, the two television networks decided to not air the uncut video out of respect for the actor's grieving family. Still, the footage reportedly appeared online at the News of the World Online. According to AP, in the full video, the star of "A Knight's Tale" can be seen rolling cigarette paper and saying "I used to smoke five joints a day for 20 years."
