The co-star of Sarah Jessica Parker in "Sex and the City", Cynthia Nixon, has been hiding a big secret regarding her health for the past two years now. Cynthia recently revealed to the press that she has survived a battle against breast cancer and managed to keep the news quiet from the media during those time. The disease was discovered by her gynecologist during the actress routine mammogram checkups in 2006.
The 42-year-old star revealed the story on a famous news show Good Morning America, saying "She (her gynecologist) says, well I have some, it's not such great news. If it's going to happen, this is the best way for it to happen - that it's found so early, and we can just get right on it." Cynthia also added that the reason she kept her sickness quiet was because she doesn't want paparazzi checking her out at the hospital. "I didn't want to make it public while I was going through it. I didn't want paparazzi at the hospital," she said.
Moreover, the actress also claimed though it was a serious disease, she wasn't surprised when discovering that she had it. "I always sort of thought I was going to get breast cancer. (That) there's a really good chance," she said. Cynthia also stated the cancer runs in her family, saying "This is what grandma went through, and I'm going to be fine... As the daughter of a breast cancer survivor, knowing my personal risk made me more aware and more empowered when I faced my own diagnosis."
After surviving the cancer, the depicter of Miranda Hobbes in the romantic comedy movie becomes an activist for breast cancer. Dedicated to the job, she encourages women to get an early test and treatment for the disease.
