Annie Leibovitz has made a statement over Miley Cyrus' semi-topless shots for Vanity Fair, apologizing for the controversial pictures.
Following
Miley Cyrus's semi-topless photos for June 2008 issue of Vanity Fair, photographer Annie Leibovitz, who took the shots, defended the pictures. Apologizing for the controversial photos, the photographer stated that Miley's shots have been misinterpreted. "I'm sorry that my portrait of Miley has been misinterpreted," she said.
In her statement, Annie further explained that she has had a discussion with the "Hannah Montana" star before the pictures were shot, saying "Miley and I looked at fashion photographs together, and we discussed the picture in that context before we shot it." She then gave her opinion about the shots, insisting "The photograph is a simple, classic portrait, shot with very little makeup, and I think it is very beautiful."
Prior to Annie's statement, Miley has confessed that she felt embarrassed over her semi-topless shots. The 15-year-old has also apologized to all of her fans. Miley said, "My goal in my music and my acting is always to make people happy. For Vanity Fair, I was so honored and thrilled to work with Annie (Leibovitz). I took part in a photo shoot that was supposed to be 'artistic' and now, seeing the photographs and reading the story, I feel so embarrassed."
Commenting on the shots, the Disney Channel has insisted that Vanity Fair Magazine "manipulated" Miley. However, a representative for the magazine has slammed the claim saying, "Miley's parents and/or minders were on the set all day. Since the photo was taken digitally, they saw it on the shoot and everyone thought it was a beautiful and natural portrait of Miley."
