It is such a relief for newly Muslim jail-bird Pete Doherty as he is set to be released from prison today, May 6. Even more, he has asked Amy Winehouse to become his partner at his rescheduled Royal Albert Hall gig and Amy has agreed.
Pete was due to perform at the prestigious venue last month but had to postpone it since he was sentenced to jail for 14 weeks over probation violation. To be released earlier after serving just 29 days of the sentence, he and his management attempted to reschedule the gig with Amy as a guest star, to duet with him. His manager Adrian Hunter said he was "looking forward" to the new gig.
A source close to Amy said to Mirror on May 4, "They think playing at such an incredible venue will be a massive two-fingers to their critics - especially in light of their traumatic personal lives."
Pete was previously reported that he got special treatment in prison, as an insider told the Sun, "He's in the segregation unit because of who he is. It's thought he could be vulnerable. (But) he's been put on enhanced privileges (too), which means he can have virtually what he wants, so that includes an extra mattress, TV and radio. It's basically the five-star treatment, which takes most prisoners weeks of good behavior to achieve."
On late April, Pete was claimed to have converted himself to Islam and thus is studying the religion and its holy Koran.
