Pregnant actress Angelina Jolie and her lover Brad Pitt have decided to help American and Iraqi children who are affected by Iraq war. The couple have through their foundation donated $1 million to the Education Partnership for Children of Conflict, to support the children and women suffering from the war.
The foundation will provide $500,000 for the Armed Service YMCA Operation Hero Program, which helps educate children who either lost a parent deployed in Iraq or have a parent serving in the country. 2,500 new children will be brought into the program. The other $500,000 will go to groups, which help Iraqi women and children struggling to survive, including Women for Women International, The International Rescue Committee and NineMillion.org, part of the United National High Commissioner for Refugees. In short, 5,700 Iraqi children and 300 women will be supported by the large sum of money.
Concerning her charity work, Angelina, who is a goodwill ambassador for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, said "These educational support programs for children of conflict are the best way to help them heal." As for Brad, he revealed "We hope to encourage others to give to these great organizations."
