Ruben Studdard and Fiancee Just Married

Ruben Studdard and his fiancee, Surata Zuri McCants, got married in Birmingham on Saturday, June 28.

Having been reported to have engaged and obtained marriage license, Ruben Studdard and fiancee Surata Zuri McCants finally walked down the aisle on Saturday, June 28. The couple exchanged vows in front of over 300 guests at the Canterbury United Methodist Church in his hometown of Birmingham.

The Birmingham News reported that Ruben and Surata wed during a sacred 30-minute ceremony at noon without any singing, but only vows, prayers, scripture and music from a string ensemble. The bride wore a white and ivory Casablanca wedding gown, while the groom wore a custom-made black tuxedo, white vest and a white hand tied bow tie. As the theme of the wedding was black-and-white, most of the 300 guests of the couple's family and friends were dressed in black and white.

According to the news media, Ruben and Surata went to the wedding reception at Rosewood Hall at SoHo Square in Homewood by a cream-colored Cadillac Escalade XL, after taking pictures at the church. Meanwhile, Birmingham will be the newlyweds' homebase as the singer plans to open a restaurant and nightclub in Birmingham's new entertainment district.

Ruben met Surata at a Wal-Mart store in Atlanta in October 2006. "I was signing copies of my CD and she came in to get one signed for her friend who couldn't get off from work. We started talking, and she was telling me about her friend. But I just looked at her and thought, 'She is so beautiful,'" he told The Birmingham News. The singer then revealed that two months after their meeting, they started to date. "I asked her for her number. We developed a friendship, and about two months later we started dating," he said.

Feeling happy with his new life and beautiful wife, Ruben added "We have a lot of good things going on right now. God has given me a beautiful wife. I am looking forward to having fun with her and enjoying all the blessings that have come my way so far."
