It was previously known that Nicole Kidman and her husband, country singer Keith Urban, have chosen an unusual name for their newborn baby, Sunday Rose Kidman Urban. While many people as well as news media are still speculating about the secret behind the couple's unusual choice of name, the actress' father Antony Kidman has revealed the mystery.
Antony revealed to The Daily Telegraph on Tuesday, July 8, that he and his wife had suggested the name. "There was a lady named Sunday Reed who was a prominent patron of the arts in Victoria," he said from his practice in Lane Cove. He went on explaining, "I have read a bit about Sunday Reed and her husband John - she was a key mover and shaker in the arts around the beginning of the century. The name Sunday struck me as being a nice name for a woman, so my wife and I mentioned it." Further, he added "It was among other names being mentioned but they (Nicole and Keith) decided that was the name they wanted."
According to the news media, Sunday Reed was not only famous for her patronage of the arts, but also for her relationship with Sidney Nolan. The connection could be the reason behind Nicole and Keith's interest in a Sidney Nolan exhibition in January at the Art Gallery of NSW before they announced the pregnancy news. The exhibition featured a quote about birth from Sidney which then attracted Nicole. The quote reads, "When you are young you are given a good view of life, because of your closeness to birth."
As for the second name of the baby, it was a tribute to Keith's late grandmother Rose. Keith's brother Shane spoke to a Sunshine Coast radio station revealing the baby's second name and expressing his excitement, saying "It's a wonderful wonderful thing, I'm so, so proud."
Nicole and Keith have reportedly taken baby Sunday Rose home, just a day after she was born. Hospital staff told The Daily Telegraph that the couple and the baby set off for their secluded house outside Nashville just before midnight local time.
