Kate Hudson has joined the cast of director Rob Marshall's movie version of the Broadway musical "Nine", The Weinstein Company has announced. The Oscar nominee joins a string of Hollywood beauties including Nicole Kidman and Penelope Cruz at the star-studded movie musical.
"We are thrilled that Kate Hudson is joining this group of some of the most talented and creative actors in film and it will be an incredible experience for audiences to watch this cast work under the brilliant direction of Rob Marshall," Harvey Weinstein announced on Monday, July 14. As for Marshall, he said in a statement concerning Kate's role, "(Kate's) revelatory skills as a singer and a dancer lead to the creation of the role."
According to E! Online, Kate's role, a young American fashion journalist named Stephanie, wasn't even in the original Broadway show. Marshall & Co. created it just for the actress, who beat out Sienna Miller and Anne Hathaway for the role. The Broadway musical itself tells the story of director Guido Contini and his numerous love affairs during his midlife crisis.
Kate's co-stars include Judi Dench, Sophia Loren, and this year's Academy Award winner for Best Actress, Marion Cotillard. The film will begin production this fall and will be released in December 2009.
