It has been confirmed that actress Salma Hayek and her fiance, French billionaire Francois-Henri Pinault, are not getting married. The couple, who got engaged in March 2007, have just called off their engagement, the actress' representative told USA Today exclusively.
Salma and Pinault were set to tie the knot this summer in St. Tropez., as the Mexican-born actress started looking for a wedding gown. She has also recently revealed she would be spending $3.5m on the wedding. But it appears to be sad that there will be no wedding for the couple, without any further explanation about the reason of the cancellation. "We are sad to announce the engagement of Salma Hayek and Francois-Henri Pinault has been canceled. There will be no further comment," the rep said in a statement.
Earlier this year, Salma revealed she didn't see the importance of getting married, saying "I don't have a need for marriage. You want to grow old with someone, you want to have a partner and to have children - we have all those things. Some people need the commitment. Maybe we'll just have the party!" The actress also insisted she and Pinault were happy with their relationship though he lived in Paris, France, while she stayed with Valentina in Los Angeles.
Further, Salma said, "To most women it's crazy. But every relationship is unique, and in order to make it work you have to be willing to listen - not only to your partner, but to the relationship itself." The 41-year-old star went on adding, "You have to be brave enough to say, 'This is who we are. We might not look like the perfect couple, or like our parents did, but this is our love story.'"
