After repeatedly dealing with police officers for various offenses, troubled rapper DMX was arrested again in a Phoenix shopping mall on Saturday, July 19 on suspicion of felony identity theft. He gave a false name and Social Security number to a hospital in April to escape medical expenses.
Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio said that DMX, whose real name is Earl Simmons, used the name Troy Jones and failed to pay a $7,500 bill as he went to Scottsdale's Mayo Clinic. The rapper was busted while hanging out with his friends at the Phoenix's Metrocenter mall. Police, who have investigated the charge for months, revealed that an officer ran his name, found the warrant, and then arrested him on the mall. Being arrested, the rapper turned to the hastily congregated group of local news cameras and yelled "harassment."
Late in June, DMX was arrested in Miami for allegedly trying to buy cocaine and marijuana. According to TMZ, DMX was busted by an undercover Miami-Dade Police narcotics detective, who was doing an investigation. He was arrested while approaching the police and trying to purchase "30 Powder & 15 Weed", the street slang for cocaine and marijuana, and handing over $45.
Concerning DMX's repeated arrests along this time, Arpaio commented, "He's back in jail again. I don't know why judges keep letting this guy out. Every time he goes in there, he gets out on bond." He added, "I'm hoping this is the one time he's going to pay the penalty for his offense."
