DMX rapped "If you ever fall down, get back up" outside a Phoenix courtroom on Thursday (July 24) after pleading not guilty across the board to felony charges of theft and identity fraud. His music label, Bodog Music, came into his defense when he was thundered with questions. Peter Karroll, president of Bodog, said, "We wouldn't work with DMX period if we didn't believe he was just a victim of circumstance. The sheriff in Phoenix is definitely targeting him. It's unbelievable."
Meanwhile, instead of commenting on the case, his lawyer, Charles Kozelka, urged reporters to look for his next album, "Walk With Me Now," which will soon be released on October 14 and a gospel album, "You'll Fly With Me Later," which is still halfway done. He apparently didn't want to pass up any promotional opportunity.
As previously reported, authorities alleged that the 37-year-old rapper had given a false name under "Troy Jones" and an incorrect Social Security number to a Scottsdale hospital in April to avoid paying $7,500 in medical expenses. He was then arrested Saturday (July 19) on an outstanding warrant.
Aside from the case he has passed, DMX is now still facing animal cruelty in Maricopa County because a number of malnourished and dehydrated pit bulls were found in his property. His record in police gets even longer when last June SWAT teams found him with cocaine and marijuana. The rapper was then tied with felony drug-possession charges and due in court on August 12 for a conference relating to those charges.
