Rumor has it that John Mayer is going to be godfather for Ashlee Simpson and Pete Wentz' upcoming child. According to reports, the reason behind Ashlee and Pete's decision to make John as their child's godfather is because he is their firm friend, who once had a romance with Ashlee's big sister, Jessica Simpson.
A source close to Ashlee and Pete told The Sun, "Pete and John have been spending a lot of time together lately and they get on so well. They are firm friends." The source added that the couple considered John would be a good godfather, saying "John gets a bad rap and is always portrayed as a bad boy but he's got a heart of gold. Pete and Ashlee know that and they think he would make a great godparent."
However, according to the insider, it is still in doubt whether Jessica would accept Ashlee and Pete's plan to make John as their child's godparent. "But they are holding back asking him at the moment because they are not sure how Ashlee's sister Jessica would feel about her ex having such a strong link to her new niece," the source explained.
In other John news, he wants a number of measures introduced to protect celebs from such irresponsible paparazzi. The singer asked for a "law governing an acceptable filming distance from an unwilling subject (to keep) everybody safe and misbehaviour accountable", reports Usmagazine.com. "I don't sit before you today to ask that you ban the paparazzi. I'm asking you to regulate it. Officialise it. Tax it. Legitimise it. I don't want to beg the city of Los Angeles to give me 1987 back. I love being a famous musician in 2008... This is about safety," John said in a statement.
