Usher has announced that he has rehired his mother Jonnetta Patton as his manager after they parted ways last year.
After parting ways last year, R'n'B crooner
Usher decided to work together with his mother once again. The singer has announced on Wednesday, August 6 that he has rehired mom Jonnetta Patton as his manager. "Usher has dissolved his management arrangement with Benny Medina and has re-engaged Jonnetta Patton as his manager," Usher and Patton said in a statement.
The "Love in This Club" singer wanted his mother back because he had "a really poor management". "He wanted her to come back on board and she decided to. He had really poor management and wanted her back," People quoted a source as saying. He allegedly made this decision after his latest album failed to live up to expectations.
Meanwhile, Medina, who is also responsible for the careers of big names such as
Mariah Carey and
Jennifer Lopez, has her own statement about Usher's lackluster album sales. "With an artist like Usher, the bar is set really high. Whether it was management, marketing or the music, we achieved a number one single and a number one album. It is a completely new day and time in music now. In four years, his audience, demographic, and musical direction has changed. Records like
Lil Wayne's 'Lollipop' are the type of phenomena that 'Yeah' was in 2004. I had a great time and we parted ways amicably."
Usher was managed by his mom until they parted ways professionally in May 2007. The 29-year-old did it because he wanted to separate his business life from personal life. "I am simply more interested in building the strength of my family. And in order to do that, I feel it's best to separate my business life from my personal life," said Usher back in 2007.
