Pop superstar
Britney Spears is scheduled to appear in a TV promo for the 2008 MTV Video Music Awards. The "Baby One More Time" singer shot the spot at the Paramount lot in Hollywood on Tuesday, August 5. Britney wasn't alone as she joined this year's VMA host,
Russell Brand, FNMTV host and
Fall Out Boy bassist
Pete Wentz, and
LL Cool J.
In the promo, Britney was involved in an improvisational Q&A session with Brand. The host suggested that there's some sexual tension between them. "I didn't feel any tension," the 26-year-old singer said. She also joked she has no idea who Brand is, calling him "Russell Brown".
A source told E! News, "It was mostly ad-libbed, with Russell asking her for advice about hosting the show." The source also revealed that there's an elephant involved in it. "There's also a 9,000-pound elephant in it, as in 'the elephant in the room,'" said the source.
Britney herself has been nominated for two categories at the awards this year. The "Gimme More" songstress will compete with
Katy Perry,
Rihanna,
Jordin Sparks, and
Mariah Carey for "Best Female Video". She will also face off against
Danity Kane,
Jonas Brothers,
Panic! At the Disco and
Tokio Hotel for "Best Pop Video".
