Accompanied by Olympic champion Michael Phelps, Britney Spears reportedly will take the MTV stage as a presenter for forthcoming Video Music Awards.
Although was previously reported to be not making a comeback appearance at the 2008 MTV Video Music Awards, she may return to the MTV stage as a presenter. The "Lucky" singer reportedly will be accompanied by U.S. Olympic champion Michael Phelps for the forthcoming Video Music Awards.

It was celebrity blogger Perez Hilton that broke the news, claiming the eight-time Olympic gold medal winner is set to appear as part of the awards show, which will be held on September 7. However, Us Weekly reported that Britney is desperate to appear on the show as the awards' presenter. "She hopes to share the stage with Michael Phelps," a source told the magazine.

Meanwhile, previous reports claimed the "Baby One More Time" singer will perform at the awards show. But manager Larry Rudolph has denied the reports, insisting the 26-year-old singer won't perform at the 2008 MTV VMAs. "Contrary to media reports, Britney was never slated to perform at this year's VMAs," Rudolph said.

The manager revealed that the ex-wife of is busy recording her next album. "She's in the middle of recording her next album, which is going amazingly well, and her focus remains on the studio," Rudolph explained. Last year, Britney was slammed by critics over her "Gimme More" performance at the event.
