Jessica Simpson admitted in a revealing interview with People magazine that after her public divorce from ex-husband, former 98 Degrees singer Nick Lachey, she "wanted to die." She said that it was hard to deal with the collapse of her marriage, which was once blown up in the media. The couple, who wed in October 2002, finalized the divorce in June 2006.
The 28-year-old singer admitted that she felt under pressure when she realized that her marriage has failed. After knowing that her divorce has become public consumption, she commented that it made a deeper impact on her. In response, she said, "It's one thing to have your marriage fail, but then there's another thing to have the entire world watch your marriage fail. It's like dealing with a death."
During the interview, Simpson also told to the magazine about her new boyfriend, Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo. She gushed that he is a "perfect guy" for her, confessing "I just told him today, 'You're the love of my life.'" Moreover, she admitted that she also wrote a song about him called "You're My Sunday" which is featured on her new country album "Do You Know?", released on September 9.
Simpson, however, stated that she is managing to keep her love life secret while she is moving on with her new relationship, saying "I don't really ever say that to anybody." The singer-actress also revealed that she has had some lovers who have not been so public. "I've had secret lovers. I can keep some things quiet," she told the magazine.
While she is moving on, she makes sure that her past lovers stay there. "I don't want anybody that's been in my life [before] in my life anymore," she said, "I don't even want them to have any way of contacting me." Afterwards, she added, "I'm not just dating for fun. I want kids someday. I want a family."
