Although her manager previously stated Britney Spears won't perform at the MTV VMAs this year, it has been confirmed that she will do it. The "Baby One More Time" singer will take MTV stage for the 2008 Video Music Awards on Sunday night, September 7.
"MTV has long played an important role in my career. How can I not be there to kick off their 25th VMAs?" Britney said in a statement. "I'm excited to open the entire show, to say hi to my fans and to be nominated."
This year, the 26-year-old singer is nominated for Best Female Video, Best Pop Video and Video of the Year for her single "Piece of Me". She has been nominated 17 times before but she failed to pick up the award.
Earlier, her manager Larry Rudolph denied the reports that Britney will perform at the awards show. "Contrary to media reports, Britney was never slated to perform at this year's VMAs," Rudolph said. "She's in the middle of recording her next album, which is going amazingly well, and her focus remains on the studio."
