Madonna's 'Like a Virgin' Dedication to Pope
Madonna made a controversial statement by admitting that she dedicated her song "Like a Virgin" to Pope Benedict XVI in front of 60,000 fans in a Rome concert on September 6.
Having been making religion controversy for years, stated that her song entitled "Like a Virgin" was dedicated to Pope Benedict XVI. The so-called queen of pop made the "disrespectful" dedication to the Pope in a Rome concert just a few miles from the Vatican on Saturday night, September 6. The Rome concert was the only Italian show of her international "Sticky and Sweet" tour.

"I dedicate this song to the Pope, because I'm a child of God," Madonna said in front of 60,000 fans at the capital's Stadio Olimpico. She even added, "All of you are also children of God."

In 2006, the 50-year-old singer triggered a controversy for staging a mock crucifixion at a Rome concert in the city's Olympic Stadium. Besides, she was known for using religious imagery in her performances like her 1989 video for the song "Like a Prayer," which featured burning crosses, statues crying blood and her seducing a black Jesus. This video was condemned by the Vatican. That was why the Vatican later criticized a show where she took religious imagery on stage, called it as one of the most "satanic shows in the history of humanity."

Madonna kicked off her "Sticky and Sweet" tour last month in Cardiff. And she will rock Wembley Stadium in London on September 11. According to reports, she will then cross the Atlantic in October, holding four date concerts at New York's Madison Square Garden before ending the tour in Sao Paolo, Brazil, on December 18.
