Hilary Duff has given her support to a new campaign from ThinkB4YouSpeak.com. The 21-year-old actress has teamed up with the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network (GLSEN) to create a PSA to help stop the overuse of the word "gay".
The campaign addresses the term "that's so gay" that are considered damaging and offensive. In the PSA, the "A Cinderella Story" star gives her suggestion to two girls in a boutique not to use the word "gay" when referring to a shirt they don't like.
It's an effort to help teenagers recognize that their anti-Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Trans gender (LGBT) language is harmful. The campaign launch coincides with the release of GLSEN's 2007 National School Climate Survey, which found that nearly nine in ten LGBT teens were reported to have been verbally harassed in the past school year, and almost half have been physically harassed because of their sexual orientation.
