Madonna and Guy Ritchie to Divorce Before Christmas 2008

It has been reported that Madonna and Guy Ritchie finally decided to divorce and wanted to finalize it before Christmas this year because they can't bear to pretend anymore.

After previously denied rumors that she and her husband Guy Ritchie wanted to split, Madonna has been reported to definitely want to divorce the movie director. The Sun revealed that a statement, which confirms the singer's marriage is over, "has been prepared and is set to be released" soon. The couple reportedly wanted to finalize their divorce before Christmas this year.

"It's very sad. They were a great couple and brilliant parents. They just couldn't live together any more," a reliable source told The Sun, referring to Madonna and Guy. The couple reportedly decided to divorce soon because they "can't bear to live with the pretense any longer." According to report, her marriage has been on the rocks since they frequently argued about her desire to adopt another child and the amount of times they spent together or dedicated to each's career.

"The final straw came before Madonna started her U.S. tour," the source continued, adding "Despite huge attempts to patch things up they both knew deep down that divorce was on the cards. It wasn't a matter of 'if' but 'when.' They tried hard over the last few months but their fighting was getting out of control." Friends of Madonna revealed that she actually wanted to wait until her "Sticky & Sweet" global tour ends next year before announcing the split.

The same source told The Sun, "Madonna wanted a highly stage-managed separation, with their split being announced when it was convenient for her. She didn't want the distraction while she is trying to concentrate on her tour." But, Guy reportedly insisted that "if they were going to split, it has to be now - and their marriage will finally be over in a matter of weeks."

Madonna reportedly was at first doubtful "about whether a separation would be best or whether to go ahead with the divorce." However, according to the source, she finally agreed with Guy that "the best thing to do" for both of them is to divorce as soon as possible.
