The Offspring have officially premiered the music video of their latest single "You're Gonna Go Far, Kid" on Friday, October 17. The music video tells about a tragic life of a man who is never satisfied with the fortune he has.
The video begins showing a poor man who is given a magical gold guitar by a beautiful fairy. He then realizes that the guitar gives him fortune as many gold coins falls down from the sky while he is playing it. Besides, he finds out that it also gives other people fortune as they suddenly have jewelry when he plays the guitar. Knowing that, he becomes greedy as he takes a gold necklace from a poor woman.
However, the man doesn't know that the fairy, who gives the guitar, is always seeing him and disagrees on his bad actions. When he is banned to attend a glamor ball because he has no good suit, he continues playing the guitar in order to get more gold coins to buy a new suit. And when he is allowed to join the ball, he becomes arrogant, boasting his skill of playing guitar. Seeing his action, the fairy is angry and curses him not to stop dancing. He then vanishes before the fairy makes the guitar disappears.
"You're Gonna Go Far, Kid" is the second single and the third track of The Offspring's eight studio album "Rise and Fall, Rage and Grace." Along with "Hammerhead" and "Half-Truism," this song was one of the first songs which was played live by the band before the release of the album this year.
