Rocker Travis Barker has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Clay Lacy Aviation, Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co., and an airplane maintenance company that he believes responsible for his September's near-death plane crash. Together with Thelma Martin, mother of Barker's bodyguard named Charles Still, the star filed the suit to L.A. County Superior Court on November 21, seeking more than $25,000 in damages for "pain and suffering, mental anguish, psychological and emotional distress and disfigurement," personal injury and wrongful death.
The suit claims "one or more of the tires failed leaving tire debris and portions of airplane components along the 8,600 foot runway," as well as, "a negligent attempt by the pilots to abort takeoff." About the tires, Barker and Martin asserted, "It's landing gear, tires, wheels, brakes, reverse thrust system, squat switches and component parts were not airworthy." Meanwhile, they also said, "The pilots were either poorly trained and/or failed to follow their training. The pilots' decision was a breach of their duty owed to the passengers onboard and was a substantial factor in causing the crash and resultant injuries and deaths."
Because of accident that happened on September 19, Barker suffered second and third-degree burns as he escaped the burning wreckage of a LearJet, which failed to clear the runway at a South Carolina airport and crashed. He took almost a month in hospital for recovery. Unfortunately, Barker's best friend, Charles Still, and an assistant were killed in the tragedy. Barker and bandmate Adam "DJ AM" Goldstein were the only survivors.
